First Kayak Trip

We took one of our new kayaks (the other one isn't in yet) and a rental and explored Herring River on Cape Cod. It was a blast. We put in at the boat ramp on Rte 28 at high tide (8:00am) and rode the lingering tide into the tidal river/marsh. We saw an osprey, two swan, crabs, fish and tons of marsh/shorebirds.

We followed the river to the east when we got to a Y and followed that to a car bridge. We coudn't go any further without portaging, so we turned around. We found 2 swans here. Then we followed the river back to the intersection and went to the west at the Y. We followed this to a small footbridge where we landed and ate lunch sitting on the bridge.

We saw lots of birds including red wing black bird nests. After tipping over Amy's kayak while getting back in after lunch, we drifted (and paddled) back out with the tide to our put-in spot.

Round trip this took us about 4 hours.
