North Montpelier Pond

We got home from work at a good time yesterday and decided somewhat last minute to head out for a kayak. Unfortunately, we had to go all the way out to Calais to borrow another kayak so by the time we actually launched, it was threatening to rain (although it wasn't supposed to). About 400 yards from shore, it started to sprinkle, but we kept going. It was a beautiful pond. Lots of things to look at. In the northeast corner, the pond gets very shallow and reedy, but very pretty and remote. My guess is that if it wasn't POURING it would be very nice.

It started to rain really hard and the wind picked up, so it became a bit miserable. We turned around at a dead end in the marsh area and gave up and headed back to the launch. We fought rain and wind and it was tough at times. Saw a kingfisher or two swooping low over the water and some swallows.

Can't wait to visit this pond on a nice day. Seems to be big enough for a couple of hours of exploration.
